Why choose Laboratoires Anvir?
1. UNMATCHED STAIN REMOVAL:
- Breaks down black stains at molecular level, including:
- Ink marks (pens, stamps or printing errors).

- Oxidation and discolouration (aged or damaged notes).
2. SAFE FOR ALL CURRENCY TYPES:
- No discolouration, tearing or weakening of notes.
- Tested and approved for:
- USD, EUR, GBP, NGN, ZAR and all major currencies.
- Polymer and hybrid notes (modern and anti-counterfeit).
SSD Solution chemicals (and similar solutions for cleaning blackened notes) generally rely on a combination of specialised chemical agents designed to break down pigments, inks and stains without damaging the note substrate (paper, polymer or security fibres). Although the exact formulas are proprietary and patented by manufacturers (such as Laboratoires Anvir), the key components typically include the following, explained in technical but accessible terms:
Reducing agents (to break down inks and pigments)
Sodium thiosulfate (Na₂S₂O₃):
Function: breaks the chemical bonds in inks based on sulphur compounds and heavy metals (common in printing inks).
Advantage: acts as a mild reducing agent that does not damage the cellulose in paper.
Example: used in photography to remove silver halides; here it helps to "decolourise" ink stains.
Sodium hydrosulfite (Na₂S₂O₄):
Function: reduces organic pigments (such as those in pen inks or stamps) to colourless forms.
Caution: it decomposes in water and sulphur, so it is used at controlled concentrations.
Alkylbenzene sulphonates (e.g. sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate):Function: they lower surface tension, allowing the solution to penetrate the paper fibres and lift ink particles.Advantage: compatible with paper and leave no greasy residue.
Function: they emulsify fats and oils (present in handling stains or industrial inks).
Note: in modern formulas they have been replaced with non-toxic alternatives owing to environmental regulations.
EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) or sodium citrate:
Function: they sequester the metal ions (iron, copper, etc.) present in inks or substrates, preventing them from catalysing paper-degradation reactions.
Example: if a note has rust stains (caused by coins), EDTA neutralises them without damaging the fibres.
Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) or phosphates:
Function:They maintain a neutral to slightly alkaline pH (pH 7–8.5), avoiding the acid hydrolysis that weakens the cellulose in paper.
Detail:Paper degrades in acidic or highly basic environments; these components buffer the pH.

Cellulases or amylases:
Function:They break down organic residues (such as food remains or sweat) without affecting the cotton/linen fibres of banknote paper.
Usage:Less common in SSD Solution, but present in formulas for severely deteriorated notes.
